One of my SMFA students acquired a binder of small laminate samples. Instantly intrigued, she wondered how art could be made from them.. She had several ideas and everyone she showed them to had their own ideas. SO… an exchange project was born.
Each participant was randomly given ten laminate samples. Each sample is different: one is shiny gold, another is matt with woodgrain, another is smooth with a speckled blue bird egg pattern… The participant was then charged with making a variable edition of something with the samples. One person etched the samples with a different image on each. Another person drew on each of the samples. And I chose to make books, each one with a different type of binding. I have 7 completed… 3 more to go!
